A slab of clay. A soft tin glaze.
Spontaneous brushstrokes, fixed by firing.

My tiles are decorated using the technique called Majolica, painting on tin-glazed earthenware. This gives each tile freshness and depth of colour.

I set up the Piccolpasso Workshop after studying ceramics at the 'Istituto d'Arte per la ceramica' in Faenza, Italy. The Workshop is named after Cipriano Piccolpasso, an Italian Renaissance courtier who wrote a witty treatise on Majolica in the 16th century.

Piccolpasso also means 'little step'.
